You might find this kind of hotel on Western Canal Belt. It's called Hotel Amsterdam Wiechmann, has single rooms at rates around 70 euro per night. It has an impressive canalside location, the rooms are cosy and furnished like an antique shop with country quilts and chintz, and lobby tchotchkes.
