When does the Eleven Cities' Journey take place in Amsterdam?(give a different answer) .
Elfstedentocht, also known as the Eleven Cities Tour or Journey, doesn't happen every year, but it takes place in January, when the canal freezes just right, then a holiday is announced and celebrated. This skating marathon attracts thousands of people from all overthe country, since years may pass before conditions are right. Last time the event was announced in 1997.
