mercer's question:
What kind of gallery is the Civic Guard Gallery in Amsterdam housing?(give a different answer) .
The Civic Guard Gallery gathers a subgenre of Dutch painting, such as group portraits of medieval guards. The different divisions -voetboog (large crossbow), kloveniers (hack-but) etc - protected the city and played a large part in deposing the Spanish government; after the Peace of Munster in 1648, they took on more of a social function. This collection, together with the Rijksmuseum's (which includes the most famous of these paintings, Rembrandt's Nightwatch), is the world's largest.
