Amsterdam, a piece of history of Centraal Station

Posted 1 year ago by avatar antonio in response to jhon's question: I found the Centraal Station of Amsterdam really good looking, do you have any background information about the building itself? (give a different answer) .

Centraal Station (1889) occupies an important place in architectural history. It's a Dutch-Renaissance edifice with Gothic additions, built to a design by Pierre Cuypers and AL van Gendt. It has a central section flanked by square towers with wings on either side. Visitors familiar with Japan may observe a resemblance to Tokyo station (1914). Most visitors arriving at Centraal Station exit the bustling front side. If that's busy, exit to the rear (north or harbour side), and imagine the scene in the 17th and 18th centuries, when Amsterdam was the busiest harbour in the world
