There is the Noordermarkt on Noorderstraat, hosting a flea market on Monday morning where you can find some wonderful bargains. On Saturday morning there's a bird market (caged birds, rabbits etc), followed till afternoon by a boerenmarkt (farmer's market) with organic produce, herbs etc. There's a nice selection of cafés surrounding the square, including Winkel on the southwest corner, home of some of the city's best apple pie.
