makka's question:
The name of Amsterdam, where does it come from?(give a different answer) .
The city's name, Amsterdam, is related to the medieval centre, from where the city expanded, around a dam built across the River Amstel, at what is now Dam Square. So, combining those two names "Amstel" and "Dam", first became "Aemstelredam" and later was transformed in what we all call now "Amsterdam".
